PIERCING AFTERCARE

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR NEW PIERCING

AVOID:

  • Touching your fresh piercing except when you're cleaning the area. Make sure to always wash your hands thoroughly beforehand

  • Any contact with foreign bodily fluids

  • Submerging the piercing for at least the first few weeks (pools, baths, hot tubs)

  • Twisting, rotating, playing with your jewellery or bumping the area

  • Sleeping on it, this can cause angle changes,
excessive swelling and delayed healing. If you're a side sleeper try using a travel pillow or piercing pillow to keep the area elevated

DO NOT APPLY:

  • Alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, iodine, antibacterial soap

  • BZK-containing products (like Bactine® or ear care solution)

  • Ointments, oils or Vaseline (they block air flow)

  • Makeup, lotion, perfume, or sprays near the piercing

  • Contact lens solution, homemade saline mix, eye drops or nasal spray

CLEAN:

  • Use sterile saline wound wash to spray the area twice a day for at least 8 weeks (do it as needed after this point)

  • Oral Piercings: Rinse mouth with non-alcoholic mouth wash every time after eating/drinking/smoking

DRY:

  • After spraying the area, dry with clean disposable products (Highly absorbent clean paper towels can be used to pat the area dry)

  • Avoid anything too "fluffy" around the area (cotton wool etc.) as it can get caught around the jewellery and accumulate bacteria

DOWNSIZE

After 6-9 weeks, most piercings will need to have a shorter bar installed to avoid healing complications like angle changes, piercing bumps and delayed healing

TOOTH GEM AFTERCARE

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR NEW TOOTH GEM

  • Avoid touching, picking at, or playing with your new tooth gem

  • For the first 2 hours after application, refrain from eating or drinking anything except water

  • The adhesive bond will fully cure within 48 to 72 hours

  • Do not consume hard foods or candies for at least the first 12 hours

  • Avoid alcohol for the first 12 hours following application

  • While the adhesive is curing, maintaining a less acidic pH in your mouth will help ensure a strong bond between the gem and the tooth (avoid citrus or sour foods)

  • Do not brush directly over the gem for the first 24 hours

  • Avoid using an electric toothbrush for at least first 48 hours

  • You may resume your normal oral hygiene routine after 48 hours

  • When brushing over the gem, always do so gently to avoid loosening or damaging it

  • If you’d like to remove the gem before it naturally falls off, you must do so with a professional dentist. Attempting to remove it yourself can cause permanent damage to the tooth
